Barb's Funny Barbs... A message from the President

Winter is slowly settling in, with the amount of rain that has fallen I was glad to finally have some snow.  December has been a flurry of activities with shopping, parties and family dinners.  We attended several of the clubs Christmas parties with lots of good food and good friends.  The Brant meeting was a lot of fun with Terry's Fishy Trivia.  Congrats to our first place winners - Tony Bernard and Ron Bishop with almost perfect scores.

This Christmas was a special time with our son. Although he is too little to know what Christmas is about, he loved the lights, music and the people.  Jackson received a mountain of gifts and met Santa for the first time.  He went to church and heard the story of Jesus for the first time.   We had big family dinners and lots of lunches at Sammy's with friends.  Jackson is becoming a little social butterfly.

We haven't had much time to work on setting up the fish room but we'll get back to it in the new year.     Jackson's marine tank is doing much better. Daddy has added some new fish again and they are all vibrant and colorful.   I managed to win some fish at the KWAS meeting and added loaches and tetras to my tanks.  I have a beautiful pair of calico long fin plecos and Jerry brought home some long fin which clouds that are amazing.  I haven't had any more egg laying from the angels but the tank had a fungus for a week or so.  Hopefully now that it's cleaned up they will be back to spawning in no time.

We have a great meeting planned for January 11/12- The club's own Walter Murfin will be presenting on how to set up and care for a marine tank.

Hope to see everyone there .

The Canadian Reptile Breeders' Expo

On the weekend of Sept 17 & 18 the Canadian Reptile Breeders' ExpoCBRE was held at the International Centre in Mississauga. The expo had breeders & retailers of various animals including snakes, lizards, turtles, amphibians, spiders, rodents (food for the other animals) and other assorted reptiles. Along with the animals was also a number of manufacturers and retailers of related equipment and supplies. At this event the CRBE setup "the Battle of the Aquariums" in which local aquarium clubs setup 26 or 46 gallon bowfront tanks with a variety of aquatic fish and animals. Brant, London and Durham all came out to support the event. I was the representative from Brant and I setup a Cichlid display. The tanks were judged and the best tank was awarded a trophy, which was won by Annette Bishop from London with a beautiful setup. The CRBE donated the proceeds of a tank raffle to the clubs that participated and Brant would like to thank the CRBE for their donation to the Brant Aquarium Society.

About Us

The purpose of the Brant Aquarium Society is to further the interest in the hobby of keeping tropical fish. We also want to increase knowledge in the habits, breeding and care of tropical fish and to exchange ideas for the benefit of all hobbyists. It is through the participation of the members and their guests that we may achieve our goal. We ask that you support your club by active participation.
